Weather and Travel Preferences

Weather varies significantly from one place to another. While some people prefer traveling in summer, others enjoy winter trips. However, spring is a universally favored season for travel due to its mild and pleasant weather. Many travelers avoid summer because of the intense heat.

Importance of Weather Checks

It’s crucial to check the weather forecast for your destination before you travel. This helps you pack appropriate clothing and gear. Always ensure you’re prepared for the weather conditions you’ll encounter.

Jordan

Jordan's climate varies significantly across different regions due to its diverse geography:

  • Northern and Central Regions (including Amman): These areas experience a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Summer temperatures can reach up to 33°C (91°F), while winter temperatures can drop to around 8°C (46°F) with occasional snowfall.

  • Jordan Valley and Dead Sea: This region has a subtropical climate with very hot summers and mild winters. Summer temperatures can soar above 40°C (104°F), while winter temperatures remain around 20°C (68°F).

  • Southern Regions (including Petra and Wadi Rum): These areas have a desert climate with extreme temperatures. Summers can be scorching, with temperatures exceeding 35°C (95°F), and winters can be quite cold, especially at night.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has a predominantly desert climate, characterized by extremely high temperatures during the day and cooler temperatures at night. The country experiences very little rainfall, with most of it occurring in the winter months. Here are some key points about the climate:

  • Desert Climate: Most of Saudi Arabia is arid, with vast deserts like the Rub' al Khali (Empty Quarter). Summers can be scorching, with temperatures often exceeding 45°C (113°F) in some areas.

  • Highlands: The southwestern region, including areas like Asir, has a more temperate climate with higher rainfall, especially during the summer monsoon season.

  • Coastal Areas: Cities along the Red Sea, like Jeddah, and the Arabian Gulf, like Dammam, experience high humidity levels.

Egypt

Egypt has a predominantly desert climate, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild winters. Here are some key points about the climate:

  • Desert Climate: Most of Egypt experiences very little rainfall and abundant sunshine. Summers can be extremely hot, especially in the interior regions like Luxor and Aswan, where temperatures can exceed 40°C (104°F).

  • Mediterranean Influence: The northern coast, including cities like Alexandria, has a more Mediterranean climate with milder temperatures and some rainfall during the winter months.

  • Red Sea Coast: Areas along the Red Sea, such as Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada, have hot summers but slightly cooler temperatures compared to the interior.
