The trail starts at the Adventures Center near the Mujib Bridge, where you will take the cantilevered walkway over the dam and follow the course of the river between towering sandstone cliffs to the base of a large waterfall. Depending on seasonal rainfall levels, the gorge may contain pools deep enough for swimming. This is an ideal walk to take slowly and enjoy the cool water and shade, especially in the heat of the summer.

Mount Nebo, located 46 km west of Amman at an altitude of 838 meters, is a site of significant historical and religious importance.The site offers stunning views of Jerusalem, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and more. Renowned for its Byzantine mosaics, Mount Nebo also features a church built in the 4th century AD. It is believed to be where Moses spent his final days, and both Christian and Islamic traditions hold that he was buried somewhere on the mountain.

Madaba, a small town in central Jordan, is renowned for its significant Christian community and its important Byzantine archaeological park. The city, located less than 40 kilometers from Amman, features over 150 churches, including the famous Madaba Map, a detailed mosaic map of Palestine. Known as the "City of Mosaics," Madaba was a key early Christian station on the pilgrimage route from Jerusalem to Mount Nebo. Today, it exemplifies religious tolerance, with Christians and Muslims living harmoniously. The Madaba Map, located in St. George's Church, dates back to the 6th century and depicts Jerusalem and parts of the Holy Land.

Shobak located just 30 km from Petra, a left turn will lead you to the majestic Shobak Castle, perched atop a hill and overlooking a small valley that descends towards the Wadi Araba valley. This strategic location was fortified by Baldwin I in 1115 A.D. to control the route between Syria and Egypt or Hejaz.

Shobak Castle, formerly known as "Montreal," refers not only to the castle itself but also to the surrounding group of ten villages. The castle was inhabited until the 1950s. It is nestled on the side of a mountain, with a sweeping expanse of fruit trees below. Built during the Crusader era, nearly 900 years ago, Shobak Castle seamlessly blends into the dramatic landscape of the hill.

"Little Petra", it's located just a 10-minute drive from Petra, Al Beidha, commonly known as Little Petra, offers a unique glimpse into the ancient world. Visitors enter the site through Siq al-Barid, or the "Cold Siq," a narrow gorge named for its high walls that block sunlight, keeping the canyon cool. The Siq stretches 350 meters and opens into three wider areas.

One of the seven Wonders of the World, Petra, speaks to the imagination of everyone who has seen pictures, or perhaps even movies, of the Treasury facade carved out of the rock.

For good reason, this sight is on many bucket lists, but you may be surprised to find that the Treasury is only a small part of an ancient city covering a surface of approximately 5 square miles. There are dozens of other incredible constructions such as the Royal Tombs, the Theatre, the Temples and a Monastery to experience, as well.

As most visitors explore the Petra site through the "classical trail", the places can get a little congested, and Petra’s popularity will become very apparent. There is however an alternative: a (sort of) secret trail called ‘The Back Door Trail to Petra’, which allows you to walk to Petra on an old Bedouin trail, without the crowds.

The trail starts at Little Petra, a site north of the actual site of Petra where you will also find some rock-carved facades and buildings. After a short uphill section, you will be spoiled with incredible views over a valley surrounded by rugged mountains. The trail continues to go gently up and down over a beautifully maintained mountain path accompanied by stunning views throughout your walk. Though not the easiest, the hike is accessible for people with varying levels of fitness.

Take your time along this Bedouin trail to appreciate the scenery and fear not, locals have put up stalls along the way, so you won’t go thirsty while you’re taking a break. Just over an hour into the hike you will be rewarded with the marvellous sight of the Monastery or Ad Deir in Arabic. Arguably one of the most iconic monuments in the Petra Archaeological Park.

Perched high above Petra, the High Place of Sacrifice offers breathtaking views, rewarding those who undertake the steep climb. The trail begins just beyond the exit of the outer Siq, ascending ancient Nabataean steps. Upon reaching the summit, visitors can enjoy a magnificent panorama before descending towards Wadi Farasa to explore notable sites such as the Lion Fountain, Garden Triclinium, Roman Soldier Tomb, Renaissance Tomb, and the Az Zantur excavation.

To reach the High Place of Sacrifice, follow the main trail to the Street of Facades. Before arriving at the theatre, take the left branch where steps will guide you to this elevated and historic site.
